ESPAÑOLITA is a source of Spanish creativity, talent and travel inspiration created by Carmen Ruiz de Huidobro.
Carmen was born and raised in Madrid. She studied at Parsons School of Design in New York. For years, she worked as an assistant art director and set designer on various films, music videos and commercials for directors such as Milos Forman, Steven Spielberg, Ridley and Tony Scott, and Michel Gondry amongst others.
After settling in Los Angeles in 2008 with her British husband, Carmen decided to take on different projects so she could spend time at home with her two kids. Inspired to see the interest Spanish culture sparked, she was determined to create a platform to house her vision and launched Españolita.net, which features individuals and places that she feels represent this unique sense of “Spanishness”.
Lately she has been venturing back into films, and in spring 2016 worked as the production designer for Radiohead's Daydreaming music video, directed by Paul Thomas Anderson and also more recently for Haim; These projects allow her to keep the spark for art direction, a profession she loves and never wants to give up.
She has now settled in Madrid until summer 2017, while her husband finishes a film in London. Meanwhile Carmen is teaming up with the most interesting culinary and cultural ambassadors to bring travel experiences in the upcoming spring 2017 in a new series of: Espanolita Trips.
