At her shop in Pollença, Mallorca
Danica is a New Yorker whose life and pace completely changed when she decided to settle in Mallorca. Her hectically paced career, and her years spent in the fashion industry working for a high end publication, took a turn when she embraced change with an open heart. She was attracted to the Spanish way of living when she visited the island many years back with her mother, a food writer, and got inspired by the simple existence. She took a leap and soon saw herself living by the romantic Mediterranean.
Danica took over a space that used to be the Viçens Museum, in the century old village of Pollença, and on the steps that lead you all the way up to the Calvary. Her store, Hito Home, contains a beautiful selection of fashion items, lifestyle objects and home decorations, from both Spanish and foreign creators. Her taste is exquisite, and a true interpretation of the relaxed living philosophy that is so predominant in Spain, especially during the summer. The interior is so grand, mysterious and gorgeous, that all the objects almost appear to retain a life in themselves. At the rear of the store, she has a small gallery where she shows works by exceptionally talented artists.
Her personal goals constantly move her towards a future full of new projects and creative initiatives, as she applies her tasteful 'savoir faire’ to other endeavors. She is taking on some other interior design disciplines, including lighting (with her artist partner, Nicholas Woods), and she is clearly confident about the possibilities of a burgeoning interest in Spanish design and craftsmanship in the American market. On the side, Danica also creates jewelry, which is both incredibly delicate and well crafted, and one can only wish to be a part of her journey, as she continues to gain confidence, and begins to imagine how her dreams will be realized in the years to come.
